Fit To Be Tied
Nothing says “rebuild, full steam ahead” than White Sox castoff (and if
you don’t know why he was cast off in 2015 after seven god-awful seasons you’re
not a real Sox fan) Tyler Flowers walking into a pitch for a three-run homer in
the Braves’ 10-7 win over the Sox Friday night in Georgia. How low can we go playing White Sox limbo?
And this a day after rookie prospect Dylan Cease got shelled for eight
runs on ten hits in two innings during his latest start. Sox manager Rick Renteria got tossed for
arguing balls and strikes (yes, with Tyler Flowers batting) but kept his calm
after Thursday’s game while discussing Cease.
Maybe he’s tipping his pitches, mused Renteria. If he is, Rick, why don’t you blow your top
about that, too? Shouldn’t other
pitchers and your pitching coach have picked that up right away? And where were the coaching holdovers from
the time of Flowers? Couldn’t they have
informed Ivan Nova and/or James McCann how to pitch a career .238 hitter (and
.223 with the Sox)? And how about showing
some emotion after rebuild cornerstone Reynaldo Lopez can’t get out of the
first inning against Atlanta?
There are a lot of reasons to get ticked off. Maybe Renteria is pacing himself.
