Over the course of an eight-year major-league career, Slater has hit .252 with 40 homeruns; 171 RBIs; and 210 runs scored. In comparison, free-agent Juan Soto last season hit .288 with 41 homers; 109 RBIs; and 128 runs scored. Slater has a 4.5 career WAR per baseball-reference.com to Soto’s 36.4 over seven seasons. These aren’t baby steps for the Sad Sox but more of a dead-cat bounce.
