Nature or Nurture
Are sportswriters born lazy, or do they get that way over time? I ask because of a lazy column Rick Telander did in today’s Sun-Times.
Telander called Soldier Field a “ridiculous 10-pound toilet seat crammed into a five-pound box.” Oh, and it’s the “lowest-capacity stadium (61,500) in” the NFL. But if the Bears move to Arlington Heights and build a stadium “with modern amenities,” why, “maybe they could win a few games, too.”
Nowhere does Telander discuss financing. Just how much of my tax dollars does he propose to fork over to the McCaskeys? Don’t hold your breath for an answer, anymore than expect Telander to note that the Bills’ new stadium is supposed to seat in the neighborhood of 62,000. I guess they don’t care about hosting a Super Bowl or moving into new digs with some 10,000 fewer seats than their current home, Orchard Park Stadium.
The Bears can do whatever they want, provided it’s on their own dime. It’s the lazy-ass commentary I can do without.
