Yeah, I’m old school
and don’t like bat-flipping the way the Cubs’ Willson Contreras did Saturday
after hitting a home run in Washington to tie the game against the
Nationals. If I were a manager, perish
the thought, I would warn someone like Contreras that what goes around comes
around. That, and he who flips last
flips best, as Bryce Harper proved in the eighth inning.
With his team down by
two runs, Harper connected for a game-tying monster shot off of reliever Carl Edwards. Not only did Harper do the flip, he did
Contreras one better with a hair toss.
Nobody can out-toss Harper in that regard.
The flip-and-toss
looked to energize the crowd, which in turn may have energized Ryan Zimmerman,
who hit a three-run homer that proved decisive.
The Cubs were five outs from going up 2-0 against the Nats, only to get
out-flipped (and –tossed).
That’s why it’s best to
keep things old school.
